Collective Worship
As a church school, our daily act of worship is really important to us and how we start the day off well. Our worship is invitational, inclusive and inspirational. In worship, we help children to develop spiritually whatever thier world views. We reflect on our world and our place in it, as well as thinking about how humans can impact the world and each other in good and bad ways.
Our usual pattern of worship is:
Mondays: World Aware Worship – We hear about events that have happened recently across the world. These might be from Picture News or responding to significant events that have happened during the previous week. We use our oracy skills to talk about our own views on the news and think about how the ‘wows and the ows’ make us feel using our windows mirrors and doors questions. We hear about what The Bible says to Christians about the topic, and what other famous people have to say about it too. We remember the UNCRC rights that we and all children in the world should have. Mrs Smith uses our prayer jelly babies to say a prayer which we can join in with if we would like. We finish our worship with a celebration of the birthdays for the week with candles on our sustainable celebration ring and singing our birthday song!
Tuesdays: Theme of the Week Worship – One of our class teachers helps us explore an aspect of our current theme. At the moment our theme is ‘What does ‘Doing All Things With Love’ look like?’. We might have a fun introduction with a game or a story and then find out how that links into a message from The Bible. This could be acted out by some children, shown on a video, or read from a story book. We think about what that theme means for us whether it challenges us to do something differently. We take an object from worship back to our Spirituality Spaces in our classrooms so we can remember our theme. At the moment we are making a jigsaw of all the different Christian values that we can show which means we have done something ‘with love’.
Wednesdays: Wellbeing Worship – Wednesdays are all about Wellbeing in our school, so we use our worship to bring joy and connect to others by singing hymns together. We especially love ones with actions! We also think about what spirituality means for us and we gather up all the prayer treasure chests from around school so we can share some prayers we have written during the week.
Thursdays: Theme of the Week Worship – We usually have a visitor from church come to school on Thursdays to help Mrs Smith who leads the worship. We explore our theme of the week a little bit more with objects, costumes, painting or games which make our worship lots of fun! We hear another story from the Bible that helps us to understand what Christians think about the theme of the week.
Fridays: Amazing Attitude Award – Each week we celebrate a different amazing attitude. This might be one of our Christian values, such as generosity; or one of our curriculum drivers, such as creativity. We find out a bit more about what the attitude means and what the Bible tells Christians about that attitude. We use our windows, mirrors and doors questions to respond spiritually to what we have found out. Each class teacher choses someone from the class who has shown that attitude at school during the week and we celebrate that person by hearing from them how they showed their amazing attitude and giving them a certificate to say ‘well done!’

We enjoy coming together as a school for collective worship each morning

We love to sing our favourite hymns in collective worship
We invite families to join us for whole school collective worship twice per week at 9.00am:
Mondays: World Aware Worship – including celebration of birthdays from the week (Sunday-Saturday).
Fridays: Amazing Attitude Award – awards chosen by class teachers for great learning behaviours and demonstrating our school values.
We will let grown-ups know if your child is receiving an award or will be having their birthday candles, but you are welcome to come on any of these days, whether your child will be at the front or not.
Once per half term, usually on the last Wednesday, we hold our ‘Let Your Light Shine’ worship, where children are invited to bring any badges, medals, certificates etc from clubs outside of school to show their achievements to the whole school. Grown-ups are also welcome to join us for this worship.
If you would like to join our worship, please come into school through the external hall doors accessible from the staff car park off Heath Road South. We ask you to sign into school so we know how many people we have on site. There are chairs at the back of the hall for grown-ups visiting us.
Please note: we do not allow photography or videos during worship, but if your child is being celebrated, we will send them to you at the end to have a hug and you may then take an individual photo.
As a whole school we also visit St Laurence Church, Northfield, to hold celebrations of some of the main Christian festivals. We are very grateful for families who can help us walk to church and back and join our service there.

Some Comments from Parents
We asked our families how our worship in school helps their child to flourish. This is what they said:
It allows my child to develop and investigate their own journey with Christ
Makes her feel special and part of a family . Helps them to understand how to be kind. Nativity plays help them to feel more confident. I also think it’s important to learn about Christianity and it’s festivals. They provide a cultural and seasonal structure for children. Personally, I also appreciate that my daughter hears teachings from the Christian faith, because we are Christian.
Very educational,my child can remember what she has been taught so they are clearly very engaging and helps to give her a sense of belonging.
He enjoys taking part in the plays and re-enacting collective worship at home.
Giving them exposure expands the knowledge and understanding of culture.
My child loves the stories and songs. She comes home and tells us about what she has learnt and is excited about the wider aspects of school life introduced in worship. She loves receiving certificates and showing the schools values.
Sense of belonging and knowledge of wider world. It teaches inclusivity.
Greater understanding of the world and Christianity and how we love others and the world.
Help them to gain confidence and teach Christian values. Increases confidence and helps them to be reflective. They have a chance to take part regularly and to celebrate achievements. Opportunities to take part and celebrate achievements is really good for confidence building.
It develops a wider understanding of the world and Christian values.
As a Christian family we believe this broadens her understanding and help to foster Christian values and beliefs.
It’s great that the Bible teaching my child receives at home and church is reinforced at school too.
